Big Give Sunday, May 17
Really, In the Midst of COVID-19?
Giving money can be inconvenient or untimely. There’s always something else we can do with money that will only benefit us or meet our need, especially when we have less than what we expected or we are not sure of how the budget will look in the future. There is a lot of uncertainty right now. America is experiencing unprecedented times during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many are unemployed, and businesses, especially small business, are suffering. There has been talk about we may be entering into a recession and very hard times since the Great Depression. Hmmm. Give out of lack and uncertainty? Maybe. God, at times, will ask us to do unusual things that don’t make sense or appeal to the senses. His thoughts are not our thoughts and ways are not our ways. Isaiah 55:8-9. Really, in the midst of COVID-19? Yes, really.
A Different Economy
Be very prayerful and thoughtful about what I’m about to state, “We do not operate according to the world’s economy, but a kingdom economy that operates by faith, with corresponding action, not facts.” Facts are information and you want to be informed. Faith is birthed out of a revelation of who God is, what He said, and His ability to perform what He said. This gives us hope in our obedience. In other words, our Father can sustain us in the midst of severe economic uncertainty. God’s covenant word does not change because of COVID-19. He instructed us to give back in January toward renovating our lower level youth area and helping non-profits represented in our church and Youth for Christ City Life Center to continue to do kingdom work on their unique platforms. These instructions have not changed and we must continue to walk by faith.
God Will Sustain
Giving has a way of setting us up for present and future sustenance and sufficiency. I don’t know how God will sustain you or what your abundance will look like, but I do know He will provide based upon 1 Kings 17 and 2 Corinthians 8-9. Read and meditate on these two passages of scripture and allow God to speak to you out of them.
On Sunday, May 17, we want to reach our goal of $25,000 (10k toward lower level renovations and 15k toward non-profits). We are asking 100 individuals (not family units but individuals) for $250. All other gifts will be valued and celebrated whether smaller or larger.
Ways to give:
- You can give online and text to give. Go to our Giving page for more information.
- Drive-by Giving – By kiosk or envelope. You can come to the church between 11:30-12:30 pm and instructions will be given to at that time. We will practice social distance and sanitation while giving. Please wear your face mask.
- By mail – You can mail your generous gift to 1003 Gayle Avenue, Kalamazoo 49048.
Thank you for your support in helping us do what we believe God is telling us.
You are amazing!
James Harris, Pastor
